Health Information
To provide pill identification services, we may collect:
- Photos of pills you upload or capture (sent to AI services for processing, NOT stored beyond your session)
- Pill identification history (text results and pill information, NOT the actual photos)

Important: Photos you take or upload are transmitted to third-party AI services (Google Gemini AI, Google ML Kit) for analysis and text recognition. These services process your images to identify text and markings on pills. The photos are NOT stored in our database beyond your current session - only the identification results (text descriptions) are saved to your history.
Device Information
We automatically collect:
- Device type and model
- Operating system version
- App version
- Unique device identifiers
- App usage statistics
Camera and Photo Library Access
PillCheckr requires access to your device camera and photo library to:
- Capture photos of pills for identification
- Allow you to select existing photos for identification
- Process images using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and AI analysis
How Photos are Processed:
- Photos are first processed locally on your device when possible (using ML Kit)
- Photos may also be sent to Google Gemini AI cloud service for advanced analysis and text recognition
- Images are used solely for pill identification purposes
- We do not use your photos for marketing or advertising
- We do not sell your photos to third parties
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide pill identification services using image recognition and database lookup
- Maintain your account and provide user authentication
- Store your identification history for future reference

Data Storage and Security
Where Your Data is Stored
- Your account information and identification history (text results, not photos) are stored securely using Supabase (our cloud database provider)
- Some data may be cached locally on your device for offline access
- Pill photos you upload or capture are:
- Sent to Google Gemini AI and/or Google ML Kit for image processing and text recognition
- Temporarily processed and cached by these services during identification
- Not stored by PillCheckr beyond your current app session
- Deleted from our systems when you close the app or complete the identification
- May be temporarily retained by third-party AI services (Google) according to their retention policies
- Only the identification results (text descriptions, pill information) are saved to your history, not the actual photos
Important: Currently, we do NOT store your pill photos beyond your active session. In the future, we may add optional features to save photos to your identification history for future reference. If we implement photo storage, we will:
- Update this privacy policy and notify you
- Make photo storage optional (opt-in)
- Provide controls to delete stored photos
- Request your consent before enabling this feature
How We Protect Your Data

Camera and Photo Access

By using PillCheckr's image identification features, you consent to your pill photos being processed by third-party AI services (Google Gemini AI, Google ML Kit). These services are essential to the app's core functionality and cannot be disabled while using image identification features.
If you do not wish to have your photos processed by these third-party services, you should not use the camera or image upload features of the app.
Children's Privacy
PillCheckr is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

- Many pills look similar and may be misidentified
- Generic and brand-name medications may have different appearances
- Always verify pill information with a licensed pharmacist or healthcare provider before taking any medication
Liability
- We are not responsible for any consequences resulting from use or misuse of this app
- We are not liable for any medical decisions made based on information from this app
- Users assume all risks associated with using this informational tool

Third-Party Services

Supabase (Database & Authentication)
We use Supabase for cloud database services, user authentication, and data storage.

Google Gemini AI (Image Analysis)
We use Google Gemini AI for advanced optical character recognition (OCR) and pill image analysis.
- Data Shared: Photos of pills that you upload or capture are sent to Google's Gemini AI service for text extraction and analysis
- Purpose: To identify text, numbers, and markings on pills for accurate identification
- Processing: Images are processed through Google's cloud servers
- Retention: Google may temporarily cache your images as described in their privacy policy
- Training Data: According to Google's policies, data sent to Gemini API is not used to train or improve Google's models

Google ML Kit (Text Recognition - Fallback)
We also use Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition as a fallback option.

Note: You cannot opt out of these third-party services while using the pill identification features, as they are essential to the app's core functionality. If you do not wish to share your data with these services, please do not use the image identification features.
International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and maintained on servers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ. By using PillCheckr, you consent to such transfers.
Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as:
- Your account is active
- Needed to provide services
- Required by law or for legitimate business purposes
Pill Photos: Photos are NOT retained beyond your current app session. They are used only for immediate identification and then discarded from our systems.
Identification Results: Text-based identification results (pill information, descriptions) are stored in your account history and retained as long as your account is active.
When you delete your account, we delete your personal information and identification history within 30 days, except where we must retain it for legal or security purposes.
Future Photo Storage Feature
We may introduce an optional photo storage feature in the future that would allow you to save pill photos to your identification history for future reference. If we implement this feature:
- It will be opt-in - You must explicitly enable photo storage
- You will be notified before this feature is available
- This privacy policy will be updated with detailed information about photo storage
- You will have control to delete any stored photos at any time
- You can disable photo storage at any time in app settings
- Your consent will be required before any photos are permanently stored
Currently, photo storage is NOT implemented, and all photos are deleted after your session ends.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Posting the new Privacy Policy in the app
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Sending you an email notification (for material changes)
